From training to practice: new coding resources arrive in Italy and Luxembourg

CODING&CO-DoING continues to bring innovation into preschool classrooms

Another important step for the CODING&CO-DoING project: teachers involved in the project in Italy and Luxembourg have received new educational materials and resources that will support the implementation of coding activities directly in their schools.

The purchase and distribution of these resources represents an important part of the project journey. After training, exchange and reflection on the pedagogical potential of coding in early childhood education, teachers will now have additional tools to transform the methodologies explored throughout the project into concrete learning experiences for children.

New tools for learning through coding

The resources will support teachers in designing age-appropriate activities based on coding, computational thinking, creativity and learning through experimentation.

Rather than considering technology as an objective in itself, CODING&CO-DoING promotes its use as part of a wider educational approach. Through coding activities and educational resources, children can explore sequences, cause-and-effect relationships, spatial thinking and problem solving while learning to experiment, collaborate and find their own solutions.

The new materials will therefore provide teachers with further possibilities to combine plugged and unplugged activities, adapting their use to the needs, interests and characteristics of each group of children.

The same project, different educational contexts

Having resources available in both Italy and Luxembourg is particularly significant for CODING&CO-DoING.

The project brings together teachers working in different educational, cultural and linguistic contexts, while encouraging them to develop a shared reflection on how coding can be meaningfully introduced in preschool education.

Teachers will be able to experiment with the materials in their own classrooms, observe how children interact with them and adapt activities according to their specific educational contexts.

This will also create new opportunities to compare experiences and exchange good practices between the partner schools.

What works in one classroom can become a source of inspiration for another, while differences in children’s responses and teachers’ approaches can generate new questions and ideas for the whole partnership.

From professional development to classroom experimentation

Throughout CODING&CO-DoING, teachers have explored coding not simply as a technical skill, but as an educational approach capable of encouraging logical and computational thinking, creativity, autonomy and collaboration from an early age.

The arrival of the new resources represents the connection between this professional learning and everyday classroom practice.

Teachers can now continue experimenting with the concepts and methodologies developed during the project, creating activities in which children are encouraged to explore, make predictions, test their ideas and try again when an initial solution does not work.

The teacher’s role remains fundamental: the materials are tools, while meaningful learning comes from the educational environment created around them.

Resources that continue the CODING&CO-DoING journey

The distribution of the materials is therefore not simply the arrival of new equipment in the partner schools. It represents a new opportunity to put learning into action.

From teacher training to classroom experimentation, and from the exchange of good practices to the direct involvement of children, each phase contributes to building a more creative, collaborative and inclusive approach to coding in early childhood education.

With the new resources now reaching teachers in Luxembourg and Italy, the CODING&CO-DoING journey continues where educational innovation matters most: in the classroom, together with children.

CODING&CO-DoING is a KA210 project co-funded by Anefore through the Erasmus+ Programme. It is coordinated by KEHSIA asbl (Luxembourg) together with FISM Provinciale di Parma – Federazione Italiana Scuole Materne, Provincia di Parma (Italy).
