FINANCIAL LITERACY FOR INNOVATIVE YOUTH PARTECIPATION IN EUROPE

WHAT WE DO

Aligned with the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027, FLYE – Financial Literacy for innovative Youth Participation in Europe is committed to promoting youth empowerment, financial literacy, and democratic participation. The project will last 24 months. With a focus on civic engagement, inclusion, and critical thinking, the project equips young people with the tools needed to understand economic systems, actively participate in decision-making processes, and contribute to their communities.

Participants will engage in hands-on learning experiences through Participatory Budgeting, where they will develop skills in financial planning, resource allocation, and democratic deliberation. By simulating real-world budget management, they will enhance their ability to make informed financial decisions while fostering an active civic mindset.

The project includes various mobilities and training sessions to ensure a comprehensive and immersive learning experience. The Blended Mobility of Young People, which combines online and in-person sessions, will take place across different partner countries, offering participants a rich intercultural experience. The first Study Visit, focused on a successful participatory budgeting project, will take place in Porto, Portugal, providing an opportunity to observe these practices implemented at the local level. The second Study Visit will bring participants to Madrid, Spain, to explore the work of a youth organization specialized in financial education. The third Study Visit, dedicated to exchanging best practices with public bodies and NGOs, will be held in Brussels, Belgium, at the heart of European institutions.

The planned training sessions cover key topics.

Funded by the European Union. The views and opinions expressed are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Neither the European Union nor the EACEA can be held responsible for them.

The Financial Literacy Training is divided into three progressive modules: the first introduces the fundamentals of financial literacy, the second focuses on resource management and personal budgeting, while the third explores funding tools and access to financial resources. An innovative approach will be offered through the Financial Literacy Board Game Training, which uses gamification to make learning more engaging.

On the civic participation front, the Participatory Budgeting Technical Training will provide operational skills for managing participatory democracy processes, followed by the Participatory Budgeting Assembly Simulation, allowing participants to put their knowledge into practice. Subsequently, the Local Participatory Budgeting Test Training will offer a hands-on opportunity to apply these concepts in a local community, while the National Participatory Budgeting Set-up Training will guide participants in developing strategies on a broader scale. Finally, the Youth Trainers Capacity Building aims to develop teaching skills among young participants, while the E-Learning Platform Training will ensure effective use of the project’s digital learning tools.

A key component of the project is the development of an interactive digital platform, offering young people and youth workers access to financial education resources, simulations, and collaborative tools. This blended learning approach ensures that financial literacy is both accessible and engaging, allowing participants to develop the skills necessary to navigate economic challenges and shape the future of their communities.
