What if you could explore gender stereotypes not only by discussing them, but by stepping into someone else’s story?
On 14 November 2026, KEHSIA will host a special Educational Live Action Role-Playing (EDULARP) experience in Luxembourg as part of the European project RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN – ReWrite in New Design Women Histories.
The event will offer participants the opportunity to learn, interact and reflect through an immersive experience designed to explore gender roles, stereotypes and equality from different perspectives.
What is RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN?
RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN explores innovative approaches to addressing gender stereotypes and promoting greater awareness of gender equality.
Through non-formal education, storytelling, art and immersive learning, the project encourages participants to question established narratives and reflect on the ways in which gender roles and expectations can shape individual experiences and opportunities.
One of the methodologies explored within the project is Educational Live Action Role-Playing, or EDULARP.
But what exactly is a LARP?
LARP stands for Live Action Role-Playing.
Unlike a traditional workshop, participants do not simply listen to a presentation or discuss a topic from the outside. Instead, they become part of a story.
Each participant takes on a role and interacts with other characters within a fictional scenario. Through conversations, choices and situations that develop during the experience, participants are invited to look at issues from perspectives that may be different from their own.
When used in an educational context, LARP can become a powerful tool for experiential learning.
Instead of simply asking, “How do stereotypes affect people?”, participants have the opportunity to explore situations in which expectations, social roles and different perspectives become part of the experience itself.
What will happen during the event?
During the RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN LARP in Luxembourg, participants will enter a shared fictional scenario and take on different characters.
As the story develops, they will interact, make choices and respond to situations together.
The aim is not to find the “correct” answer or to perform perfectly. Instead, the experience creates an opportunity to experiment with different perspectives, recognise assumptions and reflect on how stereotypes and social expectations can influence the way we perceive ourselves and others.
The immersive activity will also be accompanied by moments of reflection, allowing participants to step out of their characters, share their impressions and connect what they experienced with broader questions around gender equality, inclusion and representation.
“I’ve never done a LARP before” – Can I still participate?
Absolutely.
You do not need to be an actor, know how role-playing works or have any previous LARP experience.
The activity is designed to be accessible to newcomers. Participants will receive the information and guidance they need before entering the experience.
What matters is simply being willing to participate, interact and explore a different point of view.
There is also no “perfect” way to play a character. The purpose is not performance: it is learning through participation.
Why use role-playing to talk about gender stereotypes?
Some topics can be understood differently when we have the opportunity to experience them rather than only discuss them.
By temporarily stepping into another role, participants can encounter different perspectives, question assumptions and become more aware of the expectations that may influence everyday interactions.
After the LARP, reflection and discussion help transform the experience into learning: What did I notice? What surprised me? Did I react differently than I expected? What can this experience tell us about gender roles in real life?
This combination of storytelling, participation and reflection is at the heart of the RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN experience.
