RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN: A Week of Learning, Reflection and Empowerment in Viterbo, Italy

From 16th to 23th November 2025, young people from Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, and Portugal came together in the historic city of Viterbo, Italy, for the first international mobility of the RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN Erasmus+ project. Hosted by L’Isola che c’è, the training brought together participants and youth workers representing the project partners: L’Isola che c’è (Italy – coordinator) KEHSIA asbl (Luxembourg) , Skill Hub (Italy), DCTR – Associação Cultural (Portugal), and Pylon One (Greece).

RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN is an Erasmus+ project dedicated to challenging gender stereotypes and promoting gender equality through creative, participatory and experiential learning. The Viterbo mobility marked a key moment in the project’s timeline, providing a transformative environment where participants explored identity, roles, and social expectations through workshops, discussions and immersive activities starting the LARP game that will be central for the project.

The project aims to help young people recognise, deconstruct, and challenge the gender stereotypes that influence their lives and shape social structures. Through non-formal education tools — from discussions and group work to role-playing and artistic expression — the project encourages self-reflection, empathy, and critical understanding.

A core methodology of the project is Educational Live-Action Role Play (EDU-LARP), which allows participants to step into fictional characters and explore social dynamics from new perspectives. By engaging in role-based scenarios, participants confront unconscious biases and experience first-hand how stereotypes limit opportunities, behaviour and self-perception.

Character Building and Live-Action Role Play

One of the most engaging components was the EDU-LARP activity. Participants created and embodied fictional characters, exploring situations designed to challenge gender roles and social expectations. This experiential method helped deepen understanding beyond theory, allowing participants to emotionally connect with the issues being discussed.

With participants from four countries, the mobility created space for meaningful conversations about gender, identity and social norms across different cultures. These exchanges enriched the group’s understanding and highlighted both shared challenges and diverse realities across Europe.

The week began with structured sessions analysing what gender stereotypes are, where they come from, and how they impact individuals and communities. Participants worked in mixed-country groups to reflect on how stereotypes operate in their own societies and everyday lives.

The group also had the opportunity to take a guided tour of Viterbo, exploring its medieval architecture, cultural heritage and local hospitality. The city’s atmosphere offered a reflective backdrop for the week’s learning and allowed participants to bond outside the training room.

The Viterbo mobility served as more than just a training week— it was a space for personal growth, intercultural learning and collective empowerment. Participants left with a sharper awareness of gender issues, a stronger sense of empathy, and practical tools to promote equality in their communities.

Projects like RE.W.I.N.D. WOMEN are crucial in today’s Europe. By engaging young people through creative, immersive and inclusive methods, the initiative fosters new ways of thinking and nurtures the next generation of equality-minded leaders.

Following this successful mobility, partner organisations will continue writing character, participating in online confrontation with L’isola che c’e trainers and other participants to finalize shared characters for the final REWIND LARP on women stereotypes in the sport sector. Participants will also contribute to dissemination efforts through local events, storytelling, and artistic materials designed to raise awareness about gender stereotypes and promote positive change.

The Viterbo week marks an important beginning, a step toward building a more empathetic values driven, cohesive, informed and inclusive Europe, one young person at a time.
